Six Things That Make Jet Ski Activities Fun, Safe, and Memorable
If you’re headed to the water this summer, you’ll want to take part in jet ski activities, get a wakeboard boat, or look into spending a day on a pontoon boat. Before you start planning all those jet ski activities, though, here are some important things that you need to make your ride safe, fun, and memorable.
Life Jackets
Jet ski activities are more fun when you’re sure everyone will survive them, so make sure you’ve got the right lifejackets for everyone. Jet ski rental facilities will have them, but if you’re regularly taking part in jet ski activities or wakeboarding you might want to invest in your own. Getting your own means you get the fit you need, the look you want, and the maneuverability you crave.
Waterproof Dry Box or Bag
Your mobile phone is probably an extension of yourself by now, and losing one into the drink is a catastrophe. Don’t let that happen to you. The waterproof dry box will hold a couple phones and also keep them padded for the rough rides you’re getting on something like a jet ski. They also float if they come off the boat, so you don’t have to worry about hunting for them. An alternative if you want to keep your phone around your neck at all times is the phone dry bag. The dry bags will also hold your wallet and keys if you need.
Towable Tubes
Of all the possible power boat or jet ski activities one of the most fun is getting towed at speed on just the right kind of tube. There are lots of choices, so make sure you get the one that’s right for you. If you are renting your ride, be sure they’re cool with you bringing your tube. There are enormous ones for people who are new to tubing, single-riders that go really fast, two-person tubes that let an adult take a kid along safely, and many more options!
Dry Bag
Some rental facilities will have lockers where you can store your valuable and clothes, but others won’t. If you’re out on the water a lot, it might be worth investing in a dry bag to make sure that your socks are bone dry when you want them again. They are also brightly colored and float when dropped in the water.
Small Portable Cooler
You don’t have to get one of those giant hard-sided coolers for a day on the water, though you might want to if you’re planning to go out on a pontoon boat or other larger craft. For jet ski activities, though, there are soft-sided and collapsable ones that will fit in the jet ski storage compartment. That way you can make sure you’ve got plenty of water, sodas, snacks, or whatever else you’ll need to make the day as fun as it can be.
Emergency Kit
If you’re spending serious time on the water, it’s never a bad idea to have a small emergency kit with you. Your phone will likely be your first grab if you’re in serious trouble, but it doesn’t hurt to also have a way to quickly bandage up some small cuts and scrapes, or even a way to signal your position to emergency services if things get really out of hand.
Getting out on the water is one of the best things about summer, so don’t hesitate. Choose your location, load up the family, and then get the stuff you need to make the day safe, memorable, and fun.
